Lights out Alice!
Happiness requires less than you think.
Little things make all the difference. In a world full of misery and hatred, little sparks of happiness can lift you up. We don't "need" a lot of "things" to be happy. We only "need" things that matter. Things that will make a difference. Things that are necessary for survival are not a compulsion. You can even do without any basic amenities and still be happy though it is a lot tougher and few people are able to do it.
For the general case, it requires you to declutter your life, deallocate attention to anything that just isn't worth it and focus on what matters. Oftentimes, it is very hard to put a category to these things, but when you optimise your life, it is definitely a beautiful day.
In a world where I end up travelling for around a quarter of the day everyday, this little tidbit of happiness came when my transport (read bus) was actually fast. In my part of the world, buses are dreary, slow, ever-honking, overcrowded and conditioned with sweat. But today, today was different. The bus was fast with no unnecessary stopping, no loitering around to draw in more passengers. The bus was larger than usual a lot more comfortable than what I am normally used to.
Seems trivial right? But this made my day (and it's only morning). This made me happy. I was jumping around in my head whenever I hear the bus accelerating. I thump with joy everytime I see that it refuses to stop at every waving hand, be it in a bus stop or not. I think the above point needs clarification. In my part of this world, buses stop at any and every place, for any and every waving hand, without taking into consideration any effect on traffic their action will have.
I am happy. I am in a good place. I don't know how much longer I can be happy because, well because that's life. But I will take this sparse moment of happiness over the dullness of everyday travel.
Lights out Alice!
